John Crane John was born and raised in Nashville, TN. Pig pickins' were treasured events and pulled pork or "barbecue" as they called it, was an almost sacred experience. John moved as a young man to Houston, Texas where he was introduced to beef brisket. He loved it but longed for the traditional BBQ of his home. A couple years later his family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina and he quickly embraced the Lexington and Eastern NC BBQ style. John then joined the Navy and was exposed to flavors and creations from far and wide and has learned how to incorporate those delicasies into his BBQ offerings. Working under the name Big John's BBQ, he spent a few years as a food vendor at Charlotte Motor Speedway, at Quail Hollow PGA golf tournament (Wells Fargo) and among other venues, numerous festivals and has operated a private catering business for several years (Killer Q BBQ). In 2015, the now famous Killer Q Food Truck began roaming the streets of Charlotte NC, looking for hungry mouths to feed and it didn’t take long for word to spread. The truck he built in his backyard one summer went on to become one of the best earning trucks in the business by 2017. With total support from his beautiful wife Judy and many hard days work put in by his invaluable and hardworking son Jack, he decided to take Jim Barker up on his proposal to acquire JB’s Lazy Pig. BBQ. The food truck is still going strong, but the brick and mortar store gets most of his attention these days.
After purchasing JB's Lazy Pig BBQ in September 2017, John decided to relaunch the restaurant and combine the Eastern NC and Lexington style barbecues with Texas style barbecue into what he calls "Tex-Lex" BBQ! |
